Azaperone is a pyridylpiperazine and butyrophenone antipsychotic with sedative and antiemetic properties, primarily used as a sedative in veterinary medicine.
It is an antagonist of Dopamine receptors, able to penetrate the blood-brain barrier and bind to D1 and D2 receptors.
