Meloxicam is a non-steroidal antipyretic, analgesic and anti-inflammatory drug, not a hormonal drug. It has strong anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antipyretic effects, and can selectively inhibit cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2). Therefore, it can block the synthesis of prostaglandins, and its inhibitory effect on the biosynthesis of prostaglandins in the inflammatory site is stronger than that on the gastric mucosa or kidneys, and it is safer than other NSAIDs.
Mainly used to relieve symptoms of osteoarthritis, painful osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis.
