Liquid Sodium Silicate

Liquid Sodium Silicate

CAS No 1344-09-8
Formula NaSiO3
Application

Name: Water Glass

Chemical formula: NaSiO3

Alias: Sodium metasilicate

Grade: Industrial

Liquid sodium silicate is colourless, slightly coloured transparent or semi-transparent viscous liquid in the system with water as dispersant. Solid sodium silicate is colourless, slightly coloured transparent or semi-transparent glass block. The form is divided into liquid, solid, water quenching three kinds. Theoretically, these substances are called ‘colloid’.

Water glass commonly used in construction engineering is an aqueous solution of sodium silicate. Its chemical formula is: Na2O-nSiO2.

Liquid water glass often contains impurities and greenish grey, green or yellowish, to colorless transparent liquid water glass is * good. Liquid water glass can be combined with water in any proportion. When used, it can still be diluted with water.

(A) bonding and high strength

After hardening of water glass is mainly composed of silica gel and solid, large surface area, and thus has a high bonding force. However, the quality of the water glass itself, with the material properties and construction and maintenance of the strength has a significant impact.

(ii) Good acid resistance

In addition to hydrofluoric acid (HF), hot phosphoric acid and advanced fatty acids can resist almost all inorganic and organic acids.

(C) good heat resistance

After hardening the formation of silica mesh skeleton, at high temperatures the decline in strength is very small, when the use of heat-resistant fire-resistant aggregates formulated with water-glass mortar and concrete, heat resistance of up to 1000 ℃. Therefore, the heat resistance of water glass concrete can also be understood as mainly depending on the heat resistance of the aggregate.

(iv) Poor alkali and water resistance

Because and are soluble in alkali, so water glass can not be used in alkaline environments. Similarly, because , NaF, Na2CO3 are soluble in water and not water resistance, but can be used in a medium concentration of acid on the hardened water glass pickling treatment to improve water resistance.

Application:

A. Painting the surface of materials to improve their weathering resistance Impregnating or painting porous materials such as clay bricks, cement concrete, silicate concrete, stone, etc. with water glass with a density of 1.35g/cm³ can improve the denseness, strength, seepage resistance, freezing resistance and water resistance of the materials.

B. Reinforcement of soil Alternate pressure injection of water glass and calcium chloride solution into the soil, the silicate gel generated in the moist environment, due to the absorption of water in the soil is in a state of expansion, so that the soil solidification.

C. Preparation of quick-setting waterproofing agent.

D, repair cracks in brick walls Water glass, granulated blast furnace slag powder, sand and sodium fluosilicate mixed in the appropriate proportion, directly pressed into the cracks in the brick wall, can play a bonding and reinforcing effect.

E. The aqueous solution of sodium silicate can be used to make the outer surface of fire door.

F. It can be used to make acid-resistant mastic for the lining of furnace cellar type. Physical and chemical properties
