Successful application of ethylene cracking carbon three fraction hydrogenation catalyst

Recently, the ethylene cracking carbon three fraction hydrogenation catalyst independently developed by PetroChina has been applied for the first time in Lanzhou Petrochemical's 240,000-ton/year ethylene plant, realizing the import substitution of this type of catalyst.


Lanzhou Petrochemical's 240,000-ton/year ethylene plant was designed by the former Sinopec Lanzhou Design Institute, with an original design processing capacity of 160,000 tons/year. In June 2020, in accordance with the requirements of CNPC's plan for the utilization of ethane, liquefied gas and light hydrocarbon resources in Changqing Oilfield, Lanzhou Petrochemical carried out restorative reconstruction of the 240,000-ton/year ethylene plant.


Since October 2021, the operating space velocity of the C3 hydrogenation unit of the device has been increased from the original 20~25h?1 to 45~50h?1, and the annual production capacity of propylene will reach 140,000 tons. higher requirements. The original catalyst used in the device is an imported catalyst, which has fast performance decay, short service life and high price, which has become a technical bottleneck and a "stumbling block" for the "improvement of quality and efficiency" of the device.


Lanzhou Chemical Research Center has developed a carbon three fraction hydrogenation catalyst PEC-31 based on the special working conditions of high space velocity and high inlet acetylene of the device, using the in-situ reduction technology of active components, which meets the requirements of the device for high activity and high selectivity. , effectively reducing the amount of catalyst coking and prolonging the service life of the catalyst. At the beginning of 2022, the C3 hydrogenation catalyst PEC-31 carried out an industrial test in Lanzhou Petrochemical's 240,000-ton/year ethylene plant. It was successfully started once, and qualified products were produced in 1 hour. Under the condition of high space velocity, the inlet temperature of PEC-31 is 3℃ lower than that of the original inlet agent, the conversion rate of propyne and propadiene is comparable to that of the imported agent, and the selectivity of propylene is better than that of the imported agent. The indicators of the catalyst meet the requirements, ensuring the stable operation of the device under high airspeed conditions.


Subsequently, Lanzhou Chemical Research Center and the olefin workshop jointly conducted performance calibration of the new catalyst. During the calibration period, the average propylene increment of the hydrogenated product was 4.10v%, the conversion rate of propyne and propadiene was 98.2%, and the propylene selectivity was 78.9%. Compared with the original imported agent used in the device, under the condition that the inlet temperature is 3°C lower and the hydrogen consumption is 20% lower, the conversion rates of propyne and propadiene are comparable, and the propylene selectivity is more than 10 percentage points higher than that of the imported agent. 31 catalyst showed more excellent activity and selectivity. The overall performance of the catalyst is better than that of the original imported catalyst of the device, and all the indicators meet the requirements of the stable operation of the device and the assessment indicators, and have won praise from manufacturers.


The successful application of C3 hydrogenation catalyst PEC-31 fills the technical gap of PetroChina in the field of C3 hydrogenation, marking that the Petrochemical Research Institute has a full range of hydrogenation technologies for ethylene fractions, and promoting the full domestic production of chemical hydrogenation catalysts process.
